Keeping in view the importance of rural poultry Livestock Department has started a community-based project on improving and sustaining food self-sufficiency through promoting integration, multiplication, and intensified utilization of rural poultry in villages in Punjab.

Their major problem is high mortality due to diseases like Newcastle, Pox, new respiratory disease, and parasitic infestation. These can be easily prevented through vaccinations and treatment.
Training rural women in these skills have been very effective which is being provided to them through this project. This has drastically reduced mortality and empowered women. The livestock department is stressing hard on a holistic approach focusing on both husbandry practices as well as health and disease control especially a strategic control program of Newcastle disease.

پولٹری فارمنگ ترقی پزیر ممالک میں دیہی کمیونٹی کے ذریعہ معاش میں اہم کردار ادا کرتی ہے۔ دنیا کے ترقی پذیرممالک میں دیہی مرغیاں کل پولٹری کی تعداد کا 80 فیصد حصہ شمار کیا جاتا ہے۔
دیہی مرغیوں کی کم پیداواری صلاحت (سالانہ 40 سے 160 انڈے اور 1.5 سے 1.7 کلو وزن) کے باوجود مقامی لوگوں کے لئے ایک قیمتی اثاثہ ہیں۔ دیہی مرغیاں گائوں کے لوگوں کا ذریعہ معاش اور مجموعی ۤا بادی کی غزائی ضروریات کو پورا کرنے میں ایم کردار ادا کرتی ہیں اسی لئے دیہی مرغبانی کی ترقی اور فروغ کیلئے تمام اسٹیک ہولڈرزکی فعال شرکت کی ضرورت ہے جوکہ غربت میں کمی، محفوظ خوراک کی فراہمی اور روزگار کا بہترین ذریعہ ثابت ہوگا۔
دیہی مرغیوں کی افادیت کو مدنظر رکھتے ہوئے محکمہ لائیوسٹاک نے ایک کمیونٹی بیسڈ پروجیکٹ کا ۤاغاز کیا ہے جس میں خوراک کی بہتری اور خود انحصاری کے تحفظ کو برقرار رکھنا اور پنجاب کے دیہاتوں میں دیہی مرغیوں کی پیداوار اور استعمال کی شرہ بڑھانا شامل ہے۔ دیہی اور کچھ شہری ۤابادی میں 40 سے 60 فیصد سبسدی ریٹس پر پولٹری بونٹس تقسیم کئے جا رہے ہیں جو کہ ان علاقوں کی برنظمی، خوراک کی کمی اور بیماریوں سے روک تھام میں معاون ثابت ہونگے۔ دیہی مرغیاں رانی کھیت، چیچک اور سانس کی بیماریوں، اور اندورنی و بیرونی کرموں کی وجہ سے ہلاک ہو جاتی ہیں ان بیماریوں کو ویکسینیشن اور بروقت علاج سے کنٹرول کیا جاسکتا ہے۔ اس منصوبہ کے تحت دیہی خواتین کو دی جانے والی ۤاگاہی تربیت بہت سود مند ثابت ہوئی ہےا ور اس سے مرغیوں کی شرہ اموات میں کمی واقع ہوئی ہے۔
